Globally, there is increased scientific interest in roadkill
and road ecology (e.g., Seiler 2004; Sutherland et al.
2010), but very few studies have been conducted in South
Africa, even though roadkill has the potential to significantly
affect biodiversity (Bartels and Kotze 2006).
Previous assessments of wildlife road mortality detection
methods have differed (Santos et al. 2011) and are thus
not directly comparable (Evink 2002; Erritzøe et al.
2003).
