In addition to survival rates, the importance of quality of life in patients with cancer has been emphasized.24 According to
this study, the FACT-G score was improved in general. The subdomains including the physical, emotional, and functional
well-being improved, except in the dimension of social/family well-being. As with the results of the study that assessed FACT-G in patients with CIPN showed that the quality of life decreased over time foot bathing could be expected to have positive effects on maintaining and promoting the quality of life than foot massage. Patients with CIPN complained of various symptoms, and in this study, the quality of life related to peripheral neuropathy improved from 26.8 to 31.1 points after having foot baths. The symptoms were improved, with respect to numbness or tingling and discomfort in their hands and feet, difficulty buttoning clothing, trouble discriminating between small objects, and joint pain or muscle cramps. Although there is no experimental study that can be directly compared with our study, a previous study found that the FACT/GOG-NTx score was reduced from 37.5 to 28.7 in 50 breast cancer patients who underwent initial chemotherapy. However, the FACT/GOG-NTx assessed in 128 patients with ovarian cancer exhibiting peripheral neuropathy showed the score increasing from 27.5 to 29.0.35 According to the results of these 2 studies, although patients who underwent chemotherapy for the first time began by having no symptoms related to peripheral neuropathy, eventually, they developed symptoms that worsened over time. The patients who already had peripheral neuropathies, and were enrolled in the study, may have ceased or reduced the dosages of chemotherapy, leading to the conclusion of the need for future studies with various chemotherapy statuses.
