Several subterranean ants that were thought to be rare are now known to be more common and widespread than thought due to the use of new techniques (Brandão et al. 2008, Schmidt et al. 2013).
Here we report for the first time the collection of the worker caste of Bannapone, collected through leaf-litter
extraction in Yunnan province, from a field site about 20km from the type locality of B. mulanae. Furthermore,
these new specimens belong to a new species that we describe here, adding a second species to the genus.
