During the ‘hands on’ pressure risk equipment session, nurses
were able to view, feel and discuss mattress overlays, a full mattress
replacement system, foot pressure redistributing equipment
and chair cushions. Pressure mapping was also demonstrated and
explained. Almost three quarters of nurses at the site (72%)
reported knowing that the session was occurring. Just over half
attended the session (53.8%). It is unknown why some staff were
not aware of the session; however, it was known that staff leave
and rostering affected the ability of some staff to be present on the
day. Respondents who commented in the survey (n = 7) were
satisfied that the session improved their understanding of pressure
management issues and best practice.
