In ordertoextendtheoperatingtime,andtoimprovethe
repeatabilityofthetestresultscorrespondingtothedesign
modifications,thetestfixturemethod(refertoSection2and
Fig. 4) wasusedfortheexperiment.Thetestwasconductedatthe
AcousticsandVibrationLaboratoryofMechanicalEngineering
Department,theUniversityofMichigan—Dearborn.Thevibration
oftherivethammerwasmeasuredbytwoaccelerometers,oneat
the handleandtheotheroneatthebackofthecylinder(barrel).The
accelerationofthebuckingbarwassensedbyanaccelerometerthat
isscrewedintothebackofthebuckingbaratitscentralaxial
position.Theaccelerometerwasconnectedtoacharge-amplifier
andwassplitintotheinputsoftwoB&K2034FFTdigitalanalyzers,
oneissetat400Hzandtheotheroneat1600Hzfrequencyspan.A
computerprogramwasdevelopedto calculatetheone-thirdoctave
spectrumaswellasweightedaccelerationsofeachtest.
