“A social enterprise is a business with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are primarily reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community” (DTI Definition, DTI was precursor of BIS Dept)
Given their purpose, we might suppose SEs are axiomatically ethical – but there is always the risk of a rogue employee or management team e.g. recent example of very bad behaviour by a charity called ‘Kids Company’ in England – mainly in London
Some SEs are not in regular lines of business, e.g. Darlington Football Club, 100% fan owned, 2.1% by me!! Why did we reconfigure the club as a SE?....
Biggest % of SEs in London (22) and South East (14) but this probably just reflects population and wealth concentration.
To compare think Bangkok vs Issan
