A previous video shot by activist Arthur Reed, taken from a car roughly 50 feet from the shooting, also showed both officers on top of Sterling, firing on the subdued man at point-blank range. However, Muflahti’s video has a better angle and clearly shows that Sterling had no gun in his hand and presented no threat to either officers when the first shots were fired.
Both officers have been placed on paid leave as the US Department of Justice investigates the killing. No charges have yet been filed, and Baton Rouge’s police chief has refused calls to resign.
