Therefore there is a great need to find out ergonomic dimension of work chair and table to match
with the physiological, psychological and anthropometric requirements of the body of the users. There is a
lot of work done in India and abroad on furniture specification for school children and for physically
handicapped children (Singh, 2001). Joshi (2003) studied girls’ hostel study furniture but hardly any work on
young girls (who vary significantly in India in height ranging from 143 cm to 167 cm, according to last
report of Indian Council of Medical Research, 2005) has been done
