Kuro never, ever makes his bed and Mahiru is ready to strangle him for it. He used to throw pillows at his Servamp to try to get him to fix the bed, but all that ended up happening was Kuro kidnapping all the pillows in the house.
Once and only once, Mahiru stepped on Kuro’s tail when he was in his cat form. Kuro refused to come out from under the couch until Mahiru had spent well over an hour apologizing, promised Kuro control of the TV for the rest of the night, and made him his favorite expensive bowl ramen.
During the winter, Mahiru buys a heating blanket that he leaves folded in the corner of his living room. It becomes Kuro’s new favorite spot, and Mahiru is forced to huddle on the edge of the blanket while Kuro cocoons himself in it.
Both of them are very fond of mint chocolate chip ice cream. Mahiru usually buys himself a cone and uses a little plastic spoon to scoop off some to share with Kuro.
Mahiru keeps a little cactus on his kitchen table that he creatively named Spike. It was a gift from his uncle and he loves it very much. Kuro, on the other hand, hate Spike very much, primarily because he took a swipe at him one day and Spike fought back. It was an ordeal to get the cactus spine out of Kuro’s paw.
Kuro likes baths because he can laze about in them and Mahiru likes showers because they’re quick and simple; both of them think they other is super weird for their preference.
Mahiru insists on brushing Kuro’s fur, because he doesn’t want it to get matted. Kuro would complain about his Eve’s mother hen tendencies, but having his fur brushed feels really nice, and it’s not like he wanted to stretch and groom himself anyway.
Kuro’s fur gets caught in the vacuum cleaner and Mahiru swears that if the motor in the vacuum breaks because of it, Kuro is going to be the one to pay to replace it. Kuro hates the vacuum, but he shelved his pride to go ask it to hang on to life for as long as possible.
The bell that Mahiru gave to Kuro jingles every time he moves and sometimes Mahiru gets woken up in the middle of the night when Kuro gets up to go the bathroom and the bell rings quietly.
Mahiru doesn’t nap often, but when he does Kuro curls up on his feet. He says he’s doing it to keep Mahiru warm, but the real reason is to make sure his Eve doesn’t try to get up and keep working and wear himself out.
There is a bird that lives nearby Mahiru’s apartment that is Kuro’s mortal enemy. It’s not the least bit afraid of his cat form; in fact, it once dive bombed him and pecked him in the butt, to Mahiru’s eternal amusement. Kuro burrows into Mahiru’s jacket anytime the bird gets near now.
Every time Mahriu makes a dessert, Kuro stares at the spoon until Mahiru relents and lets him lick it clean.
Mahiru goes to volunteer at a local animal shelter, which Kuro thinks is annoying until Mahiru points out that if he didn’t care about strays, the two of them would never had met. Kuro shuts up then, and even tags along with him after that.
The DS that Kuro plays is actually Mahiru’s; it was a gift from his uncle for his birthday one year, but he never really used it. Kuro was disgusted to find out that the only games Mahiru had were Scribblenauts and Brain Age.
Sometimes, Kuro has bad dreams about his past, and wakes up shaking. On those nights, Mahiru lets his Servamp crawl into bed with him, and he’s always a bit nicer to Kuro the next day.
Mahiru has a habit of shaking his leg absentmindedly, and Kuro takes great pleasure in sitting on top of his foot and bouncing up and down.
Every time I write about Kuro, I become more and more certain that he and I are connected on a spiritual level.
