By careful genetic control,
corn has been developed
which can grow in the temperate
and semi-tropical
areas throughout the world.
With annual production of
corn topping 10 billion bushels,
the United States ranks
as the world's largest grower
of corn. Since the corn grain
averages about 70-72% starch
(dry basis) this enormous
quantity of corn provides an
almost unlimited raw material
supply from which
starch may be produced.
