In this study, an SAM-modified PDMS/PSf membrane was
successfully fabricated using a UVO treatment method. The
prepared membranes had structures and surface element
compositions that are different from those of the starting
material, PDMS. The water CA of the membrane reached 110°
after 60 min UVO treatment. The membranes showed higher
PV selectivity for ethanol, which is attributed to the increased
hydrophobicity of the membrane. The SAM-modified membrane
had a separation factor of 13.1 and a total flux of 412.9 g/
(m2 h), which are higher compared with the corresponding
values for the PDMS/PSf membrane. As the PDMS membrane
plays an important role in many processes, such as nanofiltration
and gas separation, SAM-modified PDMS membranes
may have great potential applications in the separation of
various mixtures
