The nicotine concentration in the extract was
22.36 g/mL (solution A). The solution obtained from
washed tobacco leaves was lyophilized and yielded 705 mg
of residue. Extraction of 65 g of this residue with 70 mL of
water yielded 15.76 mg of nicotine, which corresponded to
~0.02% of nicotine per leaf. Phytochemical analysis of tobacco
leaves revealed the presence of coumarins, saponins
traces, alkaloids and flavonoids.
