European research and education, the broad sector of documenting and
evaluating agroforestry practices needs to be further developed.
One of the recommendations of the 1982 workshop on agroforestry
education held at ICRAF [Zulberti 1987] should be taken into serious
consideration in this context: 'One practical way to assist the development
of agroforestry as a subject may be to encourage the 'twinning' of
appropriate institutions, for example, those of forestry, agriculture, applied
ecology, etc.' In education, both partners, the European and the tropical
countries, could essentially gain from mutual experience in solving extremely
different problems of integrated land use and in making agroforestry a
modern, future-oriented option of sustainable resource management
