3. Result and discussion
3.1 Screening and identification of oleaginous yeasts
Eight hundred and eighty nine yeast strains were isolated from soil and waste of palm oil mill and
biodiesel plant in southern region of Thailand in YPD medium using glucose or glycerol as carbon source
at acid pH (4.0) or neutral pH (6.0) with 0.0001% chloramphenicol. In Table 1, 266 and 176 yeast strains
were isolated using glycerol as a carbon source at initial pH 4 and 6, respectively. 267 and 220 yeast
strains were isolated using glucose as a carbon source at initial pH 4 and 6, respectively.
