3.1.2. Effect of C. vulgaris inoculum density on the MFC performance
Dynamic changes of open circuit voltage (OCV) with the different
C. vulgaris inoculum densities were shown in Fig. 3a. OCV of
control test (without inoculating algae) increased from 114.1 mV
to the highest 135.6 mV from 0 to 12 h, and then decreased slowly
to 13.6 mV at 60 h and reached a steady state from then on. In the
cathode chamber of MFC, oxygen was reduced as the terminal electron
acceptor in reduction reaction. The simplified reaction was
