Since the oil crises of the early 1970s, utilization of solar and wind power has
been increasingly significant/attractive/cost-effective. Solar and wind energy are nondepletable,
site-dependent, non-polluting, and potential sources of alternative energy
options. Many countries (with average wind speeds in the range of 5 m/s–10 m/s)
are pursuing the option of wind energy conversion systems (WECSs), in an effort
to minimize their dependence on fossil-based non-renewable fuels
