The inputs within the Nadler-Tushman Congruence model include such factors as the environment, resources, history (i.e., patterns of past behavior), and organizational strategies (see Table A). Nadler and Tushman are explicit in their conceptualization of each of the factors. For example, they describe the resources available to the organization as human resources, technology, capital, information, and other less tangible resources. While strategy is an input in the model, it is the single most important input to the organization and is depicted by the arrow from the input box to the organization.
