Mexico- Prompt settlement sought with US
The Mexican government is setting a high bar for a potential settlement of the ongoing trade remedy investigations facing sugar exports from Mexico by insisting that it be done before the end of the month and based solely on a quota without setting a minimum price for Mexican shipments to the US, according to informed sources, Inside US Trade reports.
The Mexican Economy Secretary said in a press conference last week that he wants to reach a settlement before October 24, noting that this is when Commerce is set to make the preliminary antidumping determination and just before the next Mexican sugar harvest takes place.
Mexican sugar industry sources have previously indicated they are seeking a quota ceiling of at least 1 million mt and a commitment that any additional US needs for imported sugar will be supplied by Mexico. (10th October, 2014)
