The eforts of these regional centers to become ``world cities'' (Dixon and Drakakis-Smith, 1997) are manifest in major new downtown complexes as well. SingaporeÕs Suntec City, the Kuala Lumpur City Center, and the new Muang Thong Thani development outside Bangkok are among the ``urban megaprojects'' which have been built around the Pacific rim as new city spaces combining oce, retail, hotel, conference center, and often residential land uses (Olds, 1995).
