I’ve never seen so many people out and about exploring parks and talking to one another. Again, for all the moaning that technology is driving people apart and making us more anti-social, I met and spoke to more new Peorians this weekend than probably the past few years of living here. And the interactions are pleasant—sharing information about where we might find a particular species or tips on gym training.
Setting out a lure at a Pokéstop at a park, for example, literally brings people together. As I was writing this post in the wee hours of the morning, a friend text messaged me that he was with at least 20 other people at a small city’s central square, all catching and training their Pokémon. Especially right now, with the violence and division we’re seeing in the news, it’s important to get to know our communities better and discover our neighbors.
