It was the Accused’s defence that he sought to arrange the sale of the handphones two to three weeks after Lee first contacted him when a Chinese businessman informed him that he was looking for a business opportunity. If believed, this would to some extent suggest that the Accused did not know that he was dealing with “hot” property as the transaction was not concluded in an hurried manner as parties involved in a clandestine transaction would endeavour to do as they would not want to retain any stolen property longer than necessary. I had serious doubts about the credibility of this aspect of his defence.
