MC is the process that retrieves the prediction from the reference picture using the motion vectors (MV), where the reference pictures can be either reconstructed intra pictures or other reconstructed inter pictures. MC is an efficient way to exploit the temporal and spatial correlation between neighboring frames of video sequences. In MVC, Blocking matching is the most well-known technique of motion compensation, in which a motion vector establishes the displacement relationship between two successive images. The motion compensator is the most demanding component of the decoder, consuming more than half of its computation time. That is the main reason why MC is a time–consuming process for a decoder.
