The Ban Khlong Rua hydropower plant and the 'No.5' power-saving campaign will be among 10 successful examples of Thailand's sustainable development projects presented to the United Nations in June.
Thailand is set to present the UN with 10 successful projects on sustainable development implemented within the country. Two of them, selected by the Thailand Environment Institute Foundation, belong to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). They comprise the hydropower plant project at the Ban Khlong Rua Community and the 'No.5' power-saving campaign, which has helped people reduce energy consumption and save on related expenses.
The presentation will take place at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from June 4-6. Thailand is expected to publish pamphlets on the ten projects under the concept Thailand Green Economy for distribution at the conference.
The conference will be an opportunity for Thailand to share its accomplishment with representatives of more than 150 participating countries. The other successful projects to be exhibited include the Royal Chitralada project, the Green Logistics project, Thai herbs, Buddhist schools and low-carbon waste management.
