In order to obtain clean surfaces and reproducible crystal
orientation conditions of the polycrystalline platinum, electrochemical
treatment was applied prior to measurements or the
deposition of nanostructures. Ten cycles of cyclic voltammograms
with a scan rate of 100 mV s1 were conducted in 0.5 M
H2SO4. Turning points of the CV were chosen to match the
onset of hydrogen and oxygen evolution, respectively.
