Although nonsignificant, there was a higher reoperation
rate (22.6%) in the psychomotor therapy group compared
with the exercise therapy group (9.3%) at 2- to 3-year follow-
up. The magnitude of difference in reoperation rates
between groups is potentially clinically relevant. The study
only provides speculation as it is underpowered with respect
to detecting group differences in reoperation rate,
considering that this outcome is generally uncommon. The
reoperation rates in both groups were however, within the
range of figures published in studies evaluating lumbar fusion49–
51 suggesting no deleterious effect of early training.
