As 2014 draws to a close, I want to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of you for all your hard work throughout the year. The success of our business is built upon the efforts of our employees and in this past year, we have taken a number of important steps in creating the world’s best online classifieds brand. Thank you for the commitment that you have shown.
We’ve gone through a year filled with building the foundations, codifying our why, values and brand essence and migrating towards one brand. We invested in strengthening our teams in the regions as well as centrally and launched the OLX brand in a dozen countries.
Last month we announced an exciting deal with Schibsted, Telenor and Singapore Press Holdings to establish joint ventures in four key markets – Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand and Bangladesh. This week we received an advanced notice of early clearance from the European Commission for this deal, so when it closes early January we can go full-steam ahead with our integration work and create strong, well-resourced Classifieds platforms in these countries.
‘Full-steam ahead’ is also the motto for rolling out our global technology platform “Atlas” (the new name for the Global Classifieds Framework). During our last management team meeting earlier this week we took a number of important decisions on moving this forward.
First of all, we have committed to a plan that sees us migrate all our existing platforms to Atlas by the end of next Financial Year. Secondly, whilst the centre of gravity will remain very much in the regions, we have decided to establish a Platform Team in Berlin (Germany) that will further optimise and manage the underlying Atlas platform. We are very keen to staff this team with technology talent from within so we will publish vacancies and the process to apply shortly. Lastly we have opted to organise our technology efforts around ‘Packs’ – small, highly skilled teams led by Product Owners that develop in an agile ‘idea-to-release’ way.
The platform and the way we organise are only part of what is needed to ensure we achieve operational excellence across Classifieds – in the end it is also about the way we work together and live our values every day.
So, 2014 has been a year of substantial change and development at the end of which we are a very different and much stronger Classifieds team. I would like to thank everyone for the role they have played in making this happen and wish you all the best for a happy Christmas and festive season. I look forward to working with you all in the New Year, refreshed after a well-deserved break and ready for a great last quarter!
