The morphological identification of acute leukemia is mainly performed by chemists and hematologists. The process starts when a bone marrow sample is taken from the patient’s spine, which is prepared as a smear with Wright’s staining method. This makes the white globules more visible during analysis. Depending on the economic resources of the hospital (because this equipment is very expensive), a flow cytometry test is conducted so the specific leukemia type and sub-type can be identified.
