aid of coating adhesion properties enhancement in the presence of Zr conversion coating.4. Conclusion The AA1050 was treated by zirconium-based conversion coating. The morphology, topography and surface free energy of the Zr treated samples were studied. Moreover, the adhesion and corrosion protection properties of the epoxy coating were also studied on the surface treated samples. Results showed that the surface treatment of aluminium by Zr conversion coating caused the increase in surface roughness and surface free energy. The adhesion of the epoxy coating to the aluminium surface increased significantly after Zr treatment of the aluminium surface. The lowest adhesion loss was also seen for the coating applied on the sample treated by Zr conversion coating. Results of EIS and salt spray test showed that Zr conversion coating could significantly improve the corrosion protection properties of the epoxy coating even at long immersion times.
