Q.7. Four Brahma Viharas
To concentrate, He taught about forty objects or methods, which is called Kammaññhàna. Kammaññhāna is a Pàli term, which means the place of work or meditation subjects.
Brahma-Vihàra Bhàvanà (Four Sublime States) is also considered as a part of forty methods of Buddhist meditation.
Brahma-Vihàra term is made of two terms Brahma and Vihàra.The word Brahma means noble, and holy. The word Vihàra conveys the meaning of dwelling or abiding or living.
Brahma-Vihàra is considered as a Bhàvanà. So it should be addressed as Brahma-Vihàra Bhàvanà. It can be divided into four parts. They are called as Mettà Brahma-Vihàra Bhàvanà (Loving-kindness), Karuõà Brahma-Vihàra Bhàvanà (Compassion), Mudità Brahma-Vihàra Bhàvanà (Good will), and Upekkhà Brahma-Vihàra Bhàvanà (equanimity).
