What is that?” cried the lion. “I am taking a nap, and someone comes to disturb me. Who are you?”
“I am just a little mouse. I am sorry to disturb you. I wanted to take a nap in your fur. I will leave’” answered the little mouse.
“Leave? No, you will stay.” Roared the lion. “If you don’t eat me, I will make you a promise.”
“What promise?” asked the lion.
“If you don’t eat me, someday I will help you.”
“You will help me! Ha, ha!” roared the lion. “How can you help me?” You are so small, and I am so big”
“I don’t know how I can help you, but I promise that if you let me go, someday I will help you,” she answered
The lion did not know what to do. He was angry at the mouse, but he was also a very kind animal. He decided to let her go. He did not think that the mouse would ever be able to help him. Many weeks passed and the mouse was working in the jungle, when she heard a loud roar. It sounded like someone was in trouble. Again and again, she heard the roar. She ran to the sound. There was the lion. He was in a hunter’s net and he could not get out. The ropes of the net were very strong and every time the lion tried to break them, they hurt him more. The little mouse remembered her promise. She jumped onto the net and started to chew the ropes. Her sharp teeth cut the rope very quickly. Soon, the lion was free.
Then, the lion said. “I did not think that you could ever help me. Today I needed your help, and you helped as you promised. Now, I know that even little animals can help bid animals.”
