The name NYK Line (Thailand) was adopted in January 1, 2007 in line with NYK’s global vision. However, prior to this we were known as NYK Shipping Service (Thailand) which was set up in 1988. At that time we had a team of about 80 people, but with steady business expansion the staff''s strength has increased over the years to 250. Our handling capability has also risen dramatically from 48,000 TEUs to approximately 600,000 TEUs per year nowadays (this throughput excluding empty containers). This reflects something like a 10 percent market share of the container shipping industry here.
From the onset we have established a thorough network to include key sites throughout Thailand. In 1991, an affiliate company known as NYK Songkhla was established to serve customers in the southern parts of Thailand. In 1993, we were amongst the first to launch an office at Laem Chabang port. Designed to facilitate the direct handling of NYK vessels and to cultivate market potential in the eastern areas, this office has grown rapidly from handling just a few hundred TEUs to nearly half a million TEUs per year - with over 50 vessels calling every month. We were also one of the first companies to use the Lat Krabang Inland Container Depot (LICD) initiative in the 1990s and in 1996 our NYK Inland Container Depot (NICD) was established to serve cargo loaded and discharged at Laem Chabang port
This expanding network is also supported by our dedicated teams and teamwork. In 1999, we acquired ISO 9002 certificate (now 9001 version 2000), which means that we are constantly looking for areas where we can improve by introducing the appropriate corrective and preventive implementation. Our goal is to always provide value-added service to our customers.
We also maintain a commitment to the safe transportation of cargo and environmental protection. Indeed, in March 2002, NYK acquired the ISO 14001 certification (the present version is 14001:2004) for its vessels and head office - which has gradually been expanded to cover its offices worldwide, including Thailand.
