Reason for reducing the alcohol content of some Thai beers?
In the US beer is classified as near beer if less than 3.2% by volume alcohol, and only wimps drink that, that is there is a limited market. Alcohol content above 5% is called malt liquor, not sold as beer and there are restrictions in selling it. So if a company wants to sell its beer in the US, the largest market is for between 3.2 and 5.0 % by volumes. AND many countries tax alcohol on the amount of alcohol in the liquid. That is a pint of 6% beer carries a higher tax than a pint of 5% beer. This includes the customs or entry tax in the EU.
