In 1990 the U.S. population was approximately 252 million and the labor force comprised about 115 million persons. There are about 65 million men and 50 million women in the 1990 workforce of the United States. By 1995 about 130 million persons will be in the labor force. Female employment participation is now 54 percent and growing. The highest employee proportion is about 60 percent of women 45-54, and only 9 percent of women over 65. From 1947 to 1975, the female population increased 52 percent, but the percentage of women working increased 123 percent.
