Moreover, combined treatment with aluminum lactate and GBE caused significant reduction in the elevated MDA and GSSG as well as a restoration of normal GSH brain contents, compared to aluminum-treated rats. These findings support the hypothesis that GBE could possess a neuroprotective effect against aluminum-induced neurotoxicity. These actions could be mediated via GBE antioxidant properties and its ability to decrease lipid peroxidation.That was attributed to its antioxidant free radical scavenging and anti-lipoperoxidative properties (Kasper and Schubert, 2009). This effect was explained in terms of chemical properties of GBE con-taining different active compounds including about 24% flavonoid glycosides (Van Beek, 2005).
