This is the most commonly used tag. It is 1.1
mm long and is batch-coded with a six digit
number. The first two digits represent the
agency code. The next two are known as data 1
and the last two as data 2. Standard tags must
not be cut at 1/2 length as the code will not be
readable. A spool of standard CWT (Figure 2)
has the same six-digit code repeated along its
length. Every batch of wire supplied is unique,
no two batches will ever duplicate the six digit
code. In this context a “batch” of wire would
typically be a spool of 10,000 tags, though often
several spools bearing the same codes might be
supplied to one user for very large groups of
fish. Depending on where the wire is cut with
respect to the repeated codes, the number can be
read directly or the number can be reconstructed
from partial codes.
