This
electrochemical rRNA microsensor can eliminate the
need for PCR ampliWcation and signiWcantly reduce
detection time. The abundance of the 16S rRNA target in
bacterial cells should allow detection of small numbers of
pathogens directly by rRNA analysis without requiring
PCR of rDNA.
