Many researchers still cling to the idea of the “supply chain.”
However, both in logistics and in IMP research this idea has been
questioned. The article connects to this discussion and suggests a much
more in-depth reasoning what and how a resource independency
perspective can develop our understanding of logistics and logistical
networks. The article puts focus on the fact that a more appropriate
alternative view of the context, for e.g. a logistics service provider, is that
it is the set of relationships constituting the supply network which is the
vehicle that creates value and differentiation from competitors' supply
networks. As stated by the authors, logistics service providers”are in the
business of detecting and exploiting supply chain interdependencies
competitively, for common benefit of the entire supply network.”
