24.819 g of Na2S2O3·5H2O is contained in the 1,000 ml solution.
Sodium thiosulfate (26 g) is dissolved in water that is freshly boiled and cooled with 0.2 g of anhydrous sodium carbonate (total volume = 1,000 ml). This solution should be standardized occasionally.
∘Standardization : Using this solution, 0.1 N iodine solution is titrated. Or, it can be standardized by titrating 0.1 N potassium bichromate solution as follows. To a flask with a stopper, 30 ml of 0.1 N potassium bichromate solution, 50 ml of water, 2 g of potassium iodide, and 5 ml of hydrochloric acid are added. The flask is sealed and set aside for 10 minutes. After adding 100 ml of water, the resulting solution is titrated with this sodium thiosulfate solution (indicator : 4 ml of starch solution)
