e final October event was the first of the big four tournaments that are providing the star-studded climax to the Race To Dubai. In the BMW Masters at Lake Malaren in China, a country where Volvo has pioneered the game at all levels, Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño survived a closing double-bogey to just hold on by one stroke from Francesco Molinari and the losing finalist in this year’s Volvo World Match Play Championship, Thongchai Jaidee. According to the 33 year-old, “My caddie kept me cool and told me how good I had been hitting the ball through the week and I played fantastic after that.” This was popular Spaniard’s seventh Tour victory which moves him up to fourth in the order of merit.
There are still plenty of places to be won in the 2014 Volvo Golf Champions, and the next three events will all have very strong fields as the Race To Dubai draws to a close.
The fourth staging of the Volvo Golf Champions will take place at Durban Country Club from January 9th-12th, 2014
