Capture rates from 1989-2010 have declined from 5.0 to 1.6 (see figure; Faaborg, unpubl. data) in Guánica Dry Forest, similar to several other endemics (e.g., Puerto Rican Vireo Vireo latimeri and Puerto Rican Bullfinch Loxigilla portoricensis). The forest is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, so population declines are not the result of habitat loss or degradation.
