The petroleum ether-soluble fraction of the 70% EtOH–H2O
extract of the roots of M. speciosa was subjected to repeated silica
gel chromatography and HPLC purification and yielded two new
and four known compounds. Their structures were elucidated by
analysis of HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data.
Compound 1 was isolated as a pale yellow amorphous powder.
The molecular formula was established as C17H14O5 by its
HRESIMS at m/z 321.0730 [M+Na]+ (calcd for C17H14O5Na:
321.0735). The IR spectrum displayed characteristic absorptions
attributing to hydroxyl (3420 cm_1) and aromatic ring (1614, 1510
