ABSTRACT
The purpose of this descriptive correlational study was to examine therelationship between family support and the quality and duration of exclusive breastfeeding practice among mothers in Bangladesh. One hundred mothers wereasked to provide information about family support and the quality and duration of exclusive breastfeeding practice. Three experts validated the content of thequestionnaire. The reliability of the questionnaires to assess family support and
exclusive breastfeeding practice were tested. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficien
s were.98 and .72, respectively. Data were analyzed by using descriptive and correlationalstatistics. The results revealed that the av
erage duration of mothers’ exclusive
breastfeeding was 4.33 months and the quality of the exclusive breastfeeding practicewas at a moderate level (M = 3.68, SD = 1.57). Family support was also at a moderatelevel (M = 3.43, SD =.75). The findings showed that there was a significantly high positive relationship between family support and the quality (r = .66,
p
< .01) andduration of exclusive breastfeeding practice (r = .90,
p
< .01).
