Dear Parents
In preparation for the upcoming junior examinations, supervised weekend study will commence this weekend and continue for the next three weekends after that. The aim of these study sessions is to allow your son to fully prepare for his examinations taking place from the 31st May - 3rd June.
It is not compulsory for boarders to remain in the hostel during these weekends. Normal procedures to apply for weekend leave remain unchanged. However, if your son does remain in the hostel during the weekend, then he will be expected to attend these study sessions.
For your information, study will be at the following times:
Saturday
10.00 am - 12.00 pm (Weekend Sport commitments will take priority)
3.00 pm - 5.00 pm
Sunday
11.30 am - 1.30 pm
4.00 pm - 5.00 pm
7.00 pm - 8.00 pm (this session will double as prep for those boarders returning to the hostel on Sunday night)
Normal day leave will be available outside of these times.
To allow the most effective use of this time, each two hour session will be broken into 30 minute slots with a 10 minute break in between. Laptops and other electronic devices will not be permitted during this study time. Boarders must be prepared and bring with them practice examinations and other material that has been printed prior to these study sessions.
Can I also please ask that parents do not contact their sons via mobile phones during these times as it is a great source of distraction. A reminder that this is also the same during prep (7.00 pm - 8.30 pm weekdays). I thank you for your co-operation with this.
College House wants its boarders to be as prepared for their examinations as possible and we believe providing boarders with structured and supervised study is the best way to achieve this. The PNBHS Director of Teaching and Learning, Rob Ferreira, spoke to all Year 9 and 10 boarders during the week about ways to maximise their study time to achieve the results they are capable of.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding these arrangements.
Regards,
