Using formula in the hospital significantly decreased the rate of mothers still breastfeeding at 6 months X2 (4, N = 407) = 30.92, p< .001. The survey tool provided open text boxes for responses concerning the reasons for for- mula use. The responses included the following: baby seemed hungry, baby had jaundice, baby lost weight, baby had a low blood sugar, formula used to help baby latch and baby was premature in NICU.
