Now that you are aware of our views on organizational patterns for instruction, you understand that we think of the direct end of the continuum as a place to begin or to return to in uncertain or confusing situations. In order to describe some of the approaches we use to individualize instruction, we what to share a practical model based on the direct-indirect continuum described above. This model is divided into three general categories: teaching a class as a whole; teaching a class in groups; and teaching a class as individuals (Locke and Lambdin, 1976). Some methods from each of these categories are presented as examples (see Table 4.2)
