It's important in Critical Care that you encourage family members to hold the hands of the
patient especially when they are talking to them. As a nurse, I usually do this to my patients.
When I was a medical-surgical nurse, I had a demented and confused patient who said to me,
‘Just hold my hand and I’m going to be alright’. That’s something that I will always remember

and I believe that touching them and trying to let them feel that there is another person with
them is good, so that they don’t feel alone and somebody is trying to help them. It's like an
assurance that somebody will help them and everything will be alright.
