English is a truly global language crossing many international boundaries. It is
spoken in more than a hundred countries and contains more than a million words. According to Melchers and Shaw (2003), English is spoken by more than 300 million native speakers and between 400 and 800 million non-native speakers while English is the official language in many countries. Moreover, it has become a requirement in a number of fields, occupations and professions (Manivannan, 2006).
