Curcumin, the bioactive component obtained by the extraction and purification of ground rhizomes of Curcuma longa has been found to exert wide range of beneficial biological and pharmacological activities including antioxidant ( Sharma, 1976), anti-inflammatory ( Chainani-Wu, 2003), antimicrobial ( De et al., 2009) and anticancer ( Aggarwal, Kumar, & Bharti, 2003) in clinical trials.
