Assessment scope:
1. Violation items in Onsite Report Template relate only to the facility being assessed.
2. Where the facility is located in a building with other residences and businesses, some
items require additional observation, documentation review, and interview. These items
include, but are not limited to:
a. Vertical emergency exit routes that may cross additional facilities; and
b. Evacuation drills conducted jointly with all occupants of the building.
3. Where access to other residences and businesses is denied, information can be gathered
through interviews.
Preparation for assessment:
During the opening meeting, facility management should be informed to prepare to give
auditors access to the entire building including but not limited to:
1. All occupied or potentially occupied areas;
2. Building rooftop;
3. Crèche or childcare facility;
4. Stairs designated as emergency exit routes, from facility floor down to ground floor;
5. Emergency exit doors, which may require de-activation of fire alarm if they are connected
to fire alarm;
6. Fire alarm control panel;
7. Sprinkler system control panel;
8. Fire pumps;
9. Water suction tank, elevated water tank or reservoir; and
10. Area use for storage of hazardous, combustible or flammable materials.
