The experiments were conducted using piggery wastewater and
industrial and municipal wastewater from a swine farm Hsinchu industrial park (Hukou, Taiwan) and National
Chiao Tung University , respectively. The
wastewater was treated by a three-step waste treatment system
consisting of solid–liquid separation, anaerobic treatment and
aerobic treatment. The samples were periodically collected from
the treatment system between April 2013 and August 2013. The
wastewater consists of 490 ± 60 mg L1 ammonia-N (NH4 + -N),
10 ± 5 mg L1 nitrite-N (NO2
-N), 2 ± 1 mg L1 nitrate-N (NO3
-N),
550 ± 70 mg L1 total nitrogen (TN), 20 ± 6 mg L1 total phosphorus
(TP), 80 ± 20 mg L1 suspended solids (SS) and
430 ± 60 mg L1 chemical oxygen demand (COD). The pH of the
wastewater was 8.5 ± 0.5.
